New Burial Application Forms Published on the Scottish Government Website

The Scottish Government has published new burial application forms, made under The Burial (Applications and Register) (Scotland) Regulations 2024 (“the Applications and Register Regulations”).

These forms should be used for all applications submitted from the start of business on 1 March 2025. The new forms should not be submitted before this date. Up until the end of business on 28 February burial authorities will continue to accept old forms, even if the burial will not take place until after 1 March. The key point is the date on which the application is received.

You can access all of the new forms at: Burial: statutory forms – gov.scot. Guidance notes for applicants are available at the end of each form.

Further guidance on the Applications and Register Regulations and The Burial (Management) (Scotland) Regulations 2025 will be published shortly to help understanding of what the regulations do, what the legal requirements are and what is not permitted.
