There’s no ward like home

Health and Social Care Integration was a key feature at this year’s NHSScotland Event which was held on 3 and 4 June at the SECC, Glasgow. Richard Lyall, from the Reshaping Care for Older People team, who helped man the stand, shares reflection on his experience at the event:

The event provided us with a great opportunity to meet and talk to delegates about health and social care integration. We also revealed our new promotional material ‘There’s no ward like home’ at our exhibition stand which features the South Lanarkshire Integrated Community Support Team and service user, 86 year old John McCluskey.

Our locality planning parallel sessions at the event, entitled ‘The Engine Room for Integration and Improvement’, were facilitated by a number of our partners from NHSScotland, social care as well as the third and independent sectors and it was helpful to have them involved in this session. We had around 200 delegates attending on each day and their input and feedback around locality planning has been valuable. More information on the outputs from these sessions will be published over the coming weeks.

We set up our exhibition area like a front room which was furnished with a sofa, a rug, and lamps. We wanted it to look and feel like a homely setting. There was a real buzz around our exhibition during the two days and we had so many cameras (video and photographs) it felt like la Dolce Vita at one point! It was great when the people featured in the promotional material joined us at our stand to talk to delegates about the benefits of working in an integrated team.

All in all it was a great opportunity for us to set out our stall (and our front room) and get our messages out, but most importantly to listen to all the people who will help make integration a success. We gained quite a lot of followers on twitter too which is great so hopefully more and more folk will be listening now.
