Engaging with Public Procurement in Scotland

October 7, 2024 by No Comments | Category Procurement news, Scottish Procurement, suppliers

Did you know that as of March 2022, there were 358,575 Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating in Scotland?

SMEs provided an estimated 1.2 million jobs, which was 55.9% of private sector employment. SMEs also accounted for 99.4% of all private sector businesses and 40.2% of private sector turnover.

These organisations are critical to the economic, social and environmental health of Scotland, and we recognise the massive role they play in unlocking opportunities for all, by promoting apprenticeship opportunities, jobs and economic growth.

The Scottish Government’s Small Medium Enterprise (SME) and Third Sector Procurement Action Plan outlines a commitment to fostering growth and support for SMEs and third sector organisations.

To support these types of organisations to participate in the procurement process, the plan aims to reduce barriers.

The development of the SME and Third Sector Procurement Action Plan, as well as industry feedback, have led us to consider the accessibility of guidance and the importance of signposting.

To support suppliers’ engagement with Public Procurement in Scotland, a two-page reference guide has been published in the Document Library section of the Supplier Journey website.

This quick reference guide includes:

  • Live links to support suppliers to find bidding opportunities
  • Guidance on innovation opportunities
  • Access to free training and guidance

This guide can also be accessed using the QR code below – we will be displaying this on the Scottish Government stand at Procurex Scotland this month where we would welcome your feedback!
