Funeral Sector Register
March 28, 2025 by funeral-industry-news No Comments | Category Burial authorities, Cremation authorities, Funeral directors
The Funeral Sector Register (“the Register”) will go live on 1st April 2025, and will act as a single point of information about the funeral sector in Scotland. The Register is being introduced to support The Burial and Cremation (Inspection) (Scotland) Regulations 2025 which came into force on 1st March 2025, and grants powers to Funeral Sector Inspectors to undertake inspections to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and requirements. You can find more details about this in the previous blog post Funeral Industry News Update on commencement of regulations on 1 March 2025 and associated work.
In order to register, a person within organisations providing funeral services will be asked to sign in with ScotAccount and confirm their identity. ScotAccount is a secure and simple way to access public services online in Scotland and makes accessing services easier because you can use one account to sign in to a variety of services and verify your personal information. If you do not have a ScotAccount, you’ll be able to create one when you go to access the register from 1st April 2025.
For more details about ScotAccount, please visit ScotAccount – mygov.scot.
The Scottish Ministers are encouraging all Burial Authorities, Cremation Authorities and Funeral Directors providing funeral services in Scotland to register.
Further information about the Register will be available when it launches. If you have any questions before then, please contact FuneralSectorRI@gov.scot.
