Nesting in the DLP Box at Scrabster

Nesting in the DLP Box at Scrabster

The Designated Landing Port (DLP) Box in Scrabster harbour has become a new home for a family of birds.

DLP Boxes are traditionally used by fishing vessels who leave their logbooks inside, with details of their onboard catch. With the advent of electronic logbooks for majority of vessels, however, their use has declined, which is where these birds saw an opportunity!

So as not to disturb the birds, the current Box has been marked as “closed” with new box, borrowed from Wick, being fixed in place below original box by the harbour board.
