Survey on the environmental impacts of subsea cables: Renewables Grid Initiative

December 11, 2015 by No Comments | Category Marine News from other Organisations, Marine Renewables

On behalf of the Renewables Grid Initiative, NIRAS are engaged in a project aiming to assist permitting authorities, project developers and stakeholders, such as environmental protection groups, throughout the development process of subsea grid infrastructure.

NIRAS kindly asks for your expert input via a short online survey for environmental impacts on subsea cables. The questionnaire will only take around 5 minutes to complete and can be accessed via: www.surveymonkey.com/r/RGI-subsea_cables.

With thousands of kilometres of subsea cabling planned in the coming years careful strategic and participatory planning is required. We are investigating the existing knowledge on the marine environmental impacts of subsea grid infrastructure, mapping knowledge gaps and identifying opportunities to fill the knowledge gaps.

Expert participation is an essential component of the project. The collation and analysis of feedback received on the effects on the marine environment, associated challenges and knowledge gaps will underpin a ‘recommendations report’ that highlights priorities.
