Are you interested in collaborating on the ethical use of digital technology and open data with Scottish Government?

People should know what data is being used, where it comes from and how it shapes decisions that affect their lives.

This means:

• clear explanations
• stronger safeguards
• better data sharing
• open and safe use of AI
• support for people and communities to use data with confidence
• making trusted information easier to find and understand, so people are better able to spot false or misleading information

The work

As part of the Open Government Action Plan 2026-2030 we are looking for people and organisations with relevant knowledge and experience, who are interested in partnering on potential projects, such as:

• Open Data: building a community through the new Open Data Reference Group, helping shape Scotland’s new open data publishing service, data.gov.scot, advancing and championing Open Data in Scotland
  

The roles

There are a range of roles for people to hold so please consider what works best for you and your organisation.

We want to be flexible so that both you/your organisation and Scottish Government get the most value out of this partnership.

• Thematic lead
• Thematic advisor
• Project member

It is possible for one person to fulfil multiple roles.

Whether you’re already engaged or are joining the conversation for the first time we’d welcome your involvement.

Express your interest

You can express your interest in any roles on any of the thematic commitments:

• Public participation
• Anti-corruption and accountability

You can also express an interest any of the roles on the civil society steering committee and the communications and engagement committee.

Just complete and submit our expression of interest form.

After completing the expression of interest form, a member of the government or civil society team will meet with you for a short discussion. We will talk about where your skills and expertise would work best for you and/or your organisation and us.

Over-subscription to the roles will result in an election process.
