Model Sustainability Test examples on the Sustainable Procurement Tools
October 12, 2022 by Melissa Reilly No Comments | Category Sustainability, Sustainable Procurement, Sustainable Procurement Tools
Additional best practice completed sustainability tests are now live on the Sustainable Procurement Tools website.
The new products join the four best practice completed sustainability tests added to the website recently. They will help buyers undertaking the sustainability test for similar commodities, or for those new to the Tools.
About the completed sustainability tests
There are two new completed examples covering:
- Cleaning Products and Services; and
- Buildings Retrofit
Examples covering the following commodities are also available:
- Laboratories: including equipment, consumables and maintenance
- Facilities Management (FM)
- Vehicle Maintenance and Repair; and
- Tyres
Users will need to be registered on the website, and login to access the examples, which can be found in the Library
The best practice examples can be used for reference, or as the basis for completing the sustainability test for similar commodities.
If using one of the examples, the user should amend it accordingly to reflect their local circumstances with respect to what they are buying, their organisational strategies or plans or specific organisational objectives.
Additional background information in the form of resource documents have been developed for each example to support those users who would like a ‘deeper dive’ into the Sustainability Test issues. The resource documents are available from the Case Studies and other resources page.
Sylvia Beswick, Head of Procurement at Highlands and Islands Enterprise said:
“We circulated the FM resources to the Project Manager and Head of Net Zero Transition in advance of an internal stakeholder workshop on the sustainability tests for our FM related procurements. This stimulated helpful discussion, and enabled us to tailor the content of the FM example for our requirements.”
Bridget Lambert, Strategic Procurement Manager at Renfrewshire Council said:
“The Sustainable Procurement Tools are a fabulous resource. I recently provided a short demonstration of the resources available online to our Head of Housing and Senior Housing Manager. They were genuinely interested and supportive, and are keen that we engage with the communities where projects are sited to help capture their wants and interests in future housing projects in terms of community benefits and tackling climate change / emissions initiatives.”
The best practice completed sustainability tests are a welcome addition to the platform, and will help our buyers consider sustainability in similar contracts.”
In response to user feedback we continue to develop the sustainable procurement tools, and add new products to complement the existing materials. The completed sustainability tests have been developed with the input of public sector colleagues, and we thank you for your involvement.
If you have any good examples of prioritisation tools or sustainability tests and you would be happy to share these with other users of the website, you can do this via the ‘Suggest for Library’ facility.
