Dark Sky Observatory

January 27, 2012 by No Comments | Category Tourism

dark-skywebI travelled to Dalmelington today to join Cath Seeds and Mark Gibson in celebrating the start of work on the Dark Sky Observatory – a wonderful new project which will create a visitor attraction for buzzing stargazers and astronomers in Britain’s only dark sky park.

The Galloway Forest Park area enjoys some of the darkest skies in the world and this new observatory will showcase its stunning natural scenery and dark skies to attract new visitors and investment to Ayrshire.

Pupils from local schools attended the event at a very snowy Craigengillan Estate. The facility will be an excellent addition to Ayrshire’s first-class tourism attractions and I look forward to seeing the finished observatory when it opens this September.
