CASE STUDY: Brian – East Dunbartonshire Council (European Social Fund)

June 3, 2020 by No Comments | Category Case study

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Main Pipeline Project offers assistance to unemployed or underemployed people in the local area, providing them with the skills and confidence to secure sustainable employment. The pipeline is supported with £634,000 of allocated grant from the European Social Fund (ESF).

The pipeline helps people like Brian, who was living in temporary accommodation and struggling with mental health and home life issues when he contacted East Dunbartonshire Council in April 2018. Brian’s case worker encouraged him to seek counselling and housing advice, while providing him with regular assistance on his CV, application forms and preparation for interviews.

Brian and his case worker decided that his goal would be to get secure employment with regular hours by October 2018, which was achieved due to his own dedication and the help he received from pipeline staff. Over time Brian grew in confidence to the extent that, in December 2019, he was offered a permanent contract for a Civil Service job which offers financial security and career prospects.

Brian said: “The support I received from this service was incredible – [my caseworker] understood how my depression and homelessness affected my ability to apply for jobs and showed great empathy. I was therefore able to form a great relationship with her that made working together more effective.”

“I now have a permanent job with the Scottish Government which I love and the impact this has had on my depression and family life is unbelievable. We are doing so well as a family now and life is good.”
