Test And Protect Guidance And The Funeral Industry

Scotland’s ‘Test and Protect – Multi-sector guidance on collection of customer and visitor contact details – July 2020’ was published on 14 July and came into effect on 15 July.

This Test and Protect guidance applies across a number of sectors and services. This includes cremation authorities, burial authorities, places of worship and funeral director service rooms offering funeral services.

Premises within the sectors listed in the guidance should gather minimal contact details from those attending funeral services to help support NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect service. This measure will form part of the national effort to suppress COVID-19 and support the country to return to a more normal way of life.

To download the associated privacy notice template as well as both A3 and A4 Test and Protect explanation posters, after following the link above you’ll see (underneath the PDF file on the right-hand side of the page) that there is a small dropdown menu called ‘Supporting files’. In here are the accompanying posters and privacy notice.

The multi-sector guidance is aimed primarily at the premises providing the service. However, should you choose to assist those providing the service by collecting contact details in advance, the wording on the template privacy notice can be edited for this purpose. Any edit should make it clear who the data is being shared with and the lawful basis should remain as is until guidance is given otherwise.
