Businesses to meet at largest free procurement event in the North of Scotland

The 5^th annual Meet the Buyer North event will be held on Wednesday, 7 September at the Alexander Graham Bell Centre for Digital Health centre on the UHI Moray campus in Elgin.

This in-person event is an opportunity for businesses in the North of Scotland to engage with Scotland’s public sector to find out about upcoming contracts and business opportunities worth £13.3bn annually in Scotland.

Meet the Buyer North 2022

The Scottish Government is a headline partner supporting the event with the Supplier Development Programme. Other confirmed exhibitors will include buyers from Moray, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, and Highland Councils.

Businesses of all sizes can learn about tendering for projects and contractors, and gather information from buyers on their plans for the supply of goods, works and services in Scotland.

Buyers want to connect with local businesses across the region. These include:

• Highlands and Islands Enterprise
• Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA)
• Historic Environment Scotland
• Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
• Social Security Scotland

Other exhibiting organisations include:

• Scottish Procurement Alliance
• PfH Scotland
• Scotland Excel
• Northern Lighthouse Board
• Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA)
• Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC)
• Crown Commercial Service

All attending businesses can meet with trade and construction contractors connected to public sector projects. An example is Mitie, which provides Hard FM services to the Scottish Government. Additional exhibitors are still being confirmed.

Businesses will be able to have one-to-one discussions, gather free resources and information, and pick up top tips on how to bid for upcoming contracts from the Supplier Development Programme.

The focus of the day will be on networking to make the most of returning to an in-person event. There will be a short agenda with speakers on emerging business opportunities and topics, broadcast hybrid through video conferencing. This includes a presentation from the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) on the Defence Technology Exploitation Programme (DTEP), a £16 million programme to boost small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) defence innovation.

Scottish SMEs, supported businesses and third sector organisations are invited to get “tender ready” by attending free tender training webinars organised by the Supplier Development Programme, including Working with the Public Sector – All You Need to Know on 1 September and Quick Quotes Made Easy on 8 September.

All businesses are encouraged to register free for Meet the Buyer North on 7 September, and save the date for the first-ever Meet the Buyer South on 4 October.
