Sharon Fairweather, Modern Apprentice Champion – Scottish Government said:

“The Scottish Government has been employing Modern Apprentices very successfully for a number of years now. We provide a range of training and support, and in return benefit from new, young talent and fresh ideas, with the majority of apprentices going on to progress their careers within a wide range of roles in the civil service.”

Caroline Little, Senior Portfolio Specialist in our More Powers Implementation Procurement Team said:

“Over the past few months I have been supporting the Scottish Government-wide MA network – I feel really privileged to be part of this and really appreciate the opportunity to watch the young people grow in confidence and develop new and existing skills. It was fantastic to be at their recent in-person event, the first in over three years, the room was buzzing!. Throughout my career I have supported a number of young people and enjoy watching them learn, grow, and become a key member of the workplace environment.”

Nikki Archer, Head of Profession for Procurement said:

“Apprenticeships are a hugely valued and impactful route to growing our own talent, bringing in new thinking and embedding diversity across our teams. I’m excited to see the impact of those hired through our Procurement People of Tomorrow programme, quickly contributing to key projects and being supported in their career development. Some of our early apprentice intakes have now progressed into procurement leadership positions, being instrumental in the management of the pandemic and other critical projects.”

Single-speaker Transcript:

It’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2023!

We want public procurement in Scotland to be Good for Businesses and their Employees…

Apprentices and employers flourish through apprenticeships.

Unlocking potential with apprenticeships means creating adaptive and resilient learners to drive skills, fill critical skills demands and meet the needs of the economy.

Apprenticeships allow people from diverse backgrounds and abilities to gain and develop skills that will support individuals throughout their life and work.

Employers can realise their potential through apprenticeships, by developing a workforce that supports the skills they need for now and the future.

We recognise the role apprenticeships play in unlocking potential for Scotland’s economy.

Apprenticeships are also one of the many ways you can join the profession, you are the Procurement People of Tomorrow!

Stay tuned this week for more content as we celebrate #ScotAppWeek23
