COP 2
The United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP24, took place in Poland this week. Climate Change and Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham attended to underline the measures and future actions the Scottish Government’s is taking in the fight against climate change.
Just Transition members announced
The first members of Scotland’s Just Transition Commission were announced, alongside the body’s remit. Environment and Climate Change Secretary Roseanna Cunningham highlighted its importance and explained how it will look at maximising the social and economic opportunities of moving to a carbon neutral economy.
Scottish Fisheries debate
Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing called on the UK Government to address vital issues which could have a major impact on Scottish fishing, before heading to Brussels for EU negotiations.
Bovine TB controls
Change to bovine TB controls and compensation arrangements were announced by Rural Affairs Minister Mairi Gougeon.
Powering Past Coal Alliance
Environment and Climate Change Secretary Roseanna Cunningham announced the Scottish Government will join the Powering Past Coal Alliance, signalling Scotland’s continued support for global efforts to phase out coal power.

Budget
The 2019/20 budget was announced. Commitments include:
- More than £70 million to drive forward sustainable and inclusive growth in the rural economy
- More than £20 million for zero waste, supporting the transition towards a more resource-efficient, circular economy, including design and implementation of a deposit return scheme
