Single use cups
Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Secretary Roseanna Cunningham was delighted to help launch Glasgow’s cup depository this week.
“With up to 500 million single-use cups being used in Scotland every year, we all need to do our bit to make sure they don’t end up littering our streets and our seas.”
Improvements to animal welfare
The Scottish Government is seeking views on proposals to strengthen enforcement powers for animal welfare offences.
Proposed amendments to the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 would increase the maximum penalty for the most serious cruelty offences from 12 months to five years imprisonment, and a potential unlimited fine.
These new tougher penalties could also apply to attacks against service animals, supporting the initiative known as ‘Finn’s Law’.
Fife Creamery
Rural Affairs Minister Mairi Gougeon travelled to Kirkcaldy to open Fife Creamery’s new training centre. The facility will help convenience retailers see the potential that food to go could have in their stores.
