Scotland's Economy

Small Business Saturday: small businesses and exports

December 1, 2018 by No Comments | Category Business, Economy, Exports

Small Business Saturday gives us the perfect opportunity to encourage small businesses in Scotland to think about how exporting could help them grow and for us to outline the help and support that is available if they want to embark on their export journey.

Improving Scotland’s export performance is central to growing Scotland’s economy and exporting can play a vital role in the growth and development of small businesses across the nation.

The Scottish Government is creating better conditions for all our businesses to make their mark in foreign markets, helping them adapt to changing circumstances. We have committed £20million over three years to underpin our drive to increase exports from Scotland. This includes providing more specialist support in overseas markets, creating 300 business-to-business mentorships for new exporters and increasing access to export finance for Scottish companies looking to enter new markets.

We are also supporting businesses in Scotland with global ambitions by helping connect them to experts who can help them succeed. This includes developing digital strategies to support exports as well as helping them to build resilience as Brexit approaches through the Scottish Enterprise Brexit Toolkit.

Ultimately, I want to do everything in my power to see even more Scottish products and services in even more markets – small businesses have an important role to play in making that happen.
