ScotAccount – helping you access services
November 14, 2024 by Stewart Hamilton No Comments | Category Digital Identity, Digital Scotland, ScotAccount
David Duncan-Fraser, ScotAccount Service Owner, provides direction on how to use ScotAccount and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the service. This includes guidance on where ScotAccount is used within public services, and how users can be supported to sign in to their accounts and verify their information if required.
ScotAccount is a new online service that you can use to sign in to public services. Currently, this is used for:
- Disclosure Scotland’s Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) applications
- Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service’s Witness Gateway
- Accountant in Bankruptcy’s Online Case Management system
You can use your ScotAccount to sign into these services in a secure and simple way with a single username and password, and code sent to your phone. You can also verify your identity online, if the service requires it, using your photo ID. This means you won’t need to show your identity documents in person, or send them by post or email. This is easier, more secure and only takes about 5 minutes to complete.
ScotAccount is a privacy respecting service
You can choose to save your verified personal information into your ScotAccount, if you wish to re-use your details when applying for other public services. This saves you time and effort, as you won’t have to repeat the same checks.
We’ve designed this service with your privacy in mind:
- your information is securely encrypted to protect your privacy
- you can choose how we collect and store your information in ScotAccount
- you can choose how and when you share your information
- if you wish, you can delete your information, or your account
Next steps for ScotAccount
We are working to roll out ScotAccount to more public services in Scotland, over the coming year and beyond. We are also working to improve the service, for example by introducing alternative ways for people to verify their identity, which do not rely on photo ID.
