In November 2013, the four Scottish Science Centres came together to deliver a joint celebration of the Year of Natural Scotland, and Scotland’s Science, technology, heritage and future. Under the banner of ‘Celebrating Scotland’s Science’, the four Scottish Science centres engaged with young and old with the Science behind ‘Natural Scotland’. Furthermore, it gave the people of Scotland the opportunity to take part in hands-on and engaging activities which promote understanding of our natural heritage and sustainable energy and development.

Staff from Marine Scotland Science’s Marine Renewable Energy Programme presented on “Marine Renewable Energy – Myths and Facts” during school and family days at both Aberdeen’s Satrosphere Science Centre and Dundee Science Centre. Ian Davies, Gareth Jones and Andronikos Kafas participated the public engagement activities talking to hundreds of primary school students and their families, developing their understanding of renewable energy, explaining the vast marine energy resource available in Scottish seas, and its importance to Scotland. Presenters were happy for having the opportunity to engage with the young folks and also enjoy great hospitality from the organisers.

Keith Mutch and Ruth Allen coordinated MSS stand at each event, complete with the interactive cart. Thanks to other members of staff including Julia Black, Nabeil Salama, Laura Morley, Margaret Bell, and Oana Racu who engaged with the visitors in this more informal setting
