To date over 80 volunteers, including many from the Marine Laboratory, have taken part in the regular Thursday lunchtime clean-ups around the Torry Battery. Last week Danny and three of his colleagues continued the clean-up by arranging for a fish tub, large fender and fridge unit to be removed from the shore. The team was also helped out by the daughter of one of our scientists, who got involved as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
So the totals to date have now gone up to:
- Bottles and cans recycled total = 4,432;
- Full bin-bags of waste total = 191 and
- * Person effort, in minutes, collecting = 15,285 (255 hrs).
Marine Scotland colleagues will also be getting involved with various clean-up campaigns during the year as part of the ‘Clean Up Aberdeen’ initiative; part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s national campaign ‘Clean Up Scotland’. Aberdeen City Council is also supporting Clean for the Queen; a campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.
