Minister for Employability and Training Jamie Hepburn spent the day yesterday with modern apprentices, who were showing off a wide variety of skills.

Mr Hepburn started the day at Screwfix in Edinburgh, where he helped to launch a new guide to help tradespeople understand how easy it is to hire an apprentice.

You can watch Mr Hepburn and some apprentices talk about how important modern apprentices are to our economy and businesses here:

You can read more about the guide on Screwfix’s website

Later that day, he visited Young Scot’s headquarters in Edinburgh, where he took part in an ‘Ask Jamie’ session hosted by Young Scot and their own digital apprentices.

Questions were far reaching and certainly challenging to answer in under 30 seconds! You can look at the questions and watch Mr Hepburn’s responses on the Young Scot Twitter feed.

The team produced this great Storify of the afternoon, where you can read a bit more about the day.

It was a fantastic day for the Minister to get out and about and realise the importance of apprentices across business and industry. Whether it is a apprentice learning a trade such as plumbing or someone learning how to produce digital content, the benefits to young people and companies are clear to see.

Skills Development Scotland is a great place to start if you are looking for more information about apprentices. Check out their website here: https://www.skillsdevelopmentscotland.co.uk/
