The mygov.scot brand refresh

September 3, 2026 by No Comments | Category mygov.scot, Scottish Government Design System

Blog by the Scottish Government Digital Design Team.

With the mygov.scot visual identity having remained the same since the launch of the website in 2014 the Scottish Government Digital Design Team recognised that it was time for a refresh.

We had several aims we wanted to achieve with this refresh, most notably:

  • to update to a modern, trustworthy and scalable mygov.scot brand
  • to align more closely with the Scottish Government (SG) parent brand
  • to establish guidelines and a more robust brand definition

Rather than completely reinvent a well-established and recognised brand we are taking the approach of a full, phased refresh to have a clear, accessible and modern signifier where services are provided through mygov.scot going forward.

The before and after of the mygov.scot logo

The before and after of the mygov.scot logo

The chunky and rounded aesthetic of the original logo is reminiscent of a more informal era of web services. We were keen to modernise the look of the logo and establish a sense of trust, reliability and cohesion with the main SG brand.

The updated mygov.scot logo brings us in line with the parent brand by utilising the same typeface (font) and brand colours.

The tonal emphasis in the logo has been shifted to the “my” to highlight the citizen focussed approach we take when updating existing or creating new services.

The refreshed logo has variants for both light and dark backgrounds as well as a stacked version to make the application of the brand more flexible for a variety of digital use cases.

The updated logo will be applied to all digital channels, and we have created new guidelines to ensure that it is used consistently and in a way that reflects our approach to the future of SG digital services.

Looking ahead

Mygov.scot is the main channel for citizens seeking information on or accessing public services in Scotland. It was originally launched in August 2014 and now receives 10 million visitors annually.

Going forward mygov.scot will continue to evolve to deliver innovative and accessible public services. Users will be able to log in for personalised services through both the mygov.scot website and using the new mygov.scot digital application which will be available for both android and iOS devices.

We will be working on onboarding new services and collaborating with different areas of both government and the wider public sector to develop future focussed public services for the citizens of Scotland.
