On June 4th and 5th, MarCRF Research Fellow Jacqui Tweddle represented Marine Scotland Science at the OECD’s “Workshop on the Future of Maritime Spatial Planning and Ocean Monitoring” in Lisbon, Portugal. The workshop was organised as part of the project “The Future of the Ocean Economy – Exploring the prospects for emerging ocean industries to 2030”. The aim of the MSP workshop was to establish what contribution Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) could make to blue growth and what opportunities MSP could create, although discussions also emerged on the importance of conservation in supporting healthy oceans and sustainable development (including in song!). The workshop was an international affair, with renowned experts from Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, all enjoying Pastel de nata (a local delicacy) and a delicious conference dinner on an old sailing ship. Interest in the Scottish National Marine Plan was high, with delegates taking copies away, and asking lots of questions.
