South of Scotland Enterprise debate

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing led the debate in parliament, the aim of which was to agree to the general principles of the South of Scotland Enterprise Bill.

South of Scotland Enterprise has been established to take a fresh approach to the enterprise and skills needs of the South and drive inclusive growth in the region.

“With farming and food production being the cornerstone of our rural economy, I am pleased to note that farm incomes have increased to a six year high”, said Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing.

Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham launched the Keep Scotland Beautiful National Spring Clean, highlighting the Scottish Government’s work on the Circular Economy, single-use plastics and tackling litter and reinforcing our commitment to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for Scottish communities.

Eagle tagging

New tagging technology for Golden Eagles will give an ‘instant fix’ on the birds when they die. This is potentially a big breakthrough in fighting and preventing raptor persecution.

Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham said:

“The tags should make a real difference in deterring would-be criminals, as well as playing a key role in establishing exactly what happened, should any of these magnificent birds of prey disappear or die in unusual circumstances.”
