CivTech will host its annual ‘Demo Day’ online on Tuesday 8 February, streaming live from the Assembly Rooms in Central Edinburgh.

CivTech was launched in 2016 by the Scottish Government’s, Digital Directorate, in partnership with the Economy Directorate. It is commonly regarded as the world’s first Government-run accelerator for digital public services and has a mission to drive daring and innovation in the public sector by collaboratively solving challenges that make people’s lives better – and in doing so create generations of sustainable, high growth businesses. In a tech world that is increasingly fast paced and ever-changing, CivTech solves the problem of ‘how to procure what you don’t know exists’.

The CivTech 6 Accelerator, in which we collaborated with twelve public sector sponsors, ranging from small charities to local authorities to core government, and twelve innovative private sector companies, from Scotland and beyond, is rapidly heading towards completion. This means that the teams that have developed exciting, innovative solutions to the twelve ‘Challenges’ first posted in June 2021 will be ready to present the results of their work.

The products and services developed represent CivTech’s most interesting set so far, and cover a wide and varied range of areas including net zero, carbon capture, smarter environmental land use, tech-enabled tourism management, healthier and safer buildings, traffic management in forestry areas, virtual reality, and no-code solutions (more information on all twelve challenges can be found here.)

Demo Day gives the companies the opportunity to pitch their products to key stakeholders in the public, private and third sectors, and demonstrate their solutions’ potential for wider-scale use and commercialisation.

Demo Day is an opportunity for public sector organisations to come together to learn a bit more about the programme and how it can assist them on their own journeys to delivering better public services. It brings together public sector expertise and private sector creativity to solve real problems, develop new products and deliver better, faster and easier services for everyone. It is also a chance for budding entrepreneurs and tech start-ups to hear about the pipeline of new opportunities coming up in CivTech 7.

In addition to featuring the challenge sponsors and companies, the event will be opened by Ivan McKee, Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise. There will also be some fantastic keynote speeches from within tech, Government and the Public Sector. Highlights include keynotes from Jane Morrison-Ross, CEO, South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) and Alexandra Lima, Europe Sustainability Lead, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

If you are a tech innovator, entrepreneur or public servant and want to experience CivTech 6 Demo Day, registration is free and you can secure your ticket now via this link.
