The East Coast Scallop Survey is going well so far as the weather has been very good and is allowing us to make excellent progress through the stations. As I write this over 38 hauls have been completed with all scallops measured, aged and damage indexed. We got this large lobster in the bycatch and managed to return it to the sea unharmed despite his stay in the dredge….. although I believe if the cook had been left with the lobster his fate may have been quite different!
While we were working on Aberdeen Bank, off to our port side we observed a pod estimated at about 200 dolphins but, as is usually the case, no one had a camera handy.
However, this trip we managed to get a decent photo of the Bell Rock lighthouse, normally it’s shrouded in fog or you can’t see it for the rain. Sometimes the sun does shine in Scotland and when it does; wow, what a view!
