Marine Scotland Staff Clean Up: 3 September 2015
September 8, 2015 by Marine Directorate Communications No Comments | Category Marine Directorate general, Marine Directorate Science, Marine Litter, Oceanography
Our marine litter clean-ups have been continuing well since our last update.
Grand totals, as at 3rd September 2015 –
- Bottles and cans recycled total = 3,472;
- Full bin-bags of waste total = 175, and
- Person effort, in minutes, collecting = 14,375 (240 hrs)
Most interesting item found on the 3rd of September at the first beach (AKA Area 2) was a “Message in a Bottle”. The bottle was dropped last year and has come all the way from… the River Dee. We will be refloating it though so that it can continue its journey onwards. I wonder if it will be at sea as long as our Guinness World Record bottle.
If you have an interest in the types of litter we have been finding and the impact marine litter has on wildlife please along and hear Dr Marie Russell give a talk at Doors Open Day on September 12th at the Marine Laboratory.
